What is the Church of Christ?

This question is important as there are an estimated 38,000 denominations in the world.  Consequently, this is an important question.  When you read the New Testament, you will find that there is no mention of denominations or the many creeds associated with them.  There is a church that is spoken of with Christ as its founder and head.  We offer a FREE DVD titled Why Are There So Many Churches?   This DVD will answer if the true church exists today and if it matters to which church you belong.  Email your request to This email address is being protected from spambots. Please take a minute to read the material below that explains more about who we are and what we teach.  We welcome your questions.

  1. We do not have any formal authoritative creed as you see in many religions. Rather, we simply accept that God’s word is our authority as it is the inspired, complete, and perfect word of God (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:3).
  2. We are commanded not to add to or take from God’s written word (Deuteronomy 4:2; Revelation 22:18-19; Galatians 1:8-9).
  3. If you ask us a question related to the Bible, we will give you a Bible answer (1Thessalonians 5:21; 1 Peter 3:15; Romans 12:2) and seek to answer non-Bible questions from the Bible (2 Peter 1:3).
  4. Jesus states that we will eventually be judged based upon His words (John 12:48).  Thus, the Law of Moses [Old Testament] is not binding today as a way to be saved but is a guide to lead us to Jesus (Colossians 2:14; Romans 7:1-6; Hebrews 9:15-17).
  5. We do not bind any teachings that are man-made as this violates God’s Law (Galatians 1:10; Matthew 15:7-9).
  6. The Bible speaks of ONLY ONE church (Ephesians 1:22-23; 4:4, Colossians 1:18; Matthew 16:18; 1 Corinthians 12:12-13).
  7. It is our conviction that the Church of Christ is that ONE church because:
    • We use a Bible name (Romans 16:16).
    • It was not formed by division and does not bear anyone else’s name (I Corinthians 1:10).
    • Christ is the founder and head (Matthew 16:18; Colossians 1:18).
    • We worship in Spirit and Truth (John 4:24). Such worship involves:
      • Partaking of the Lord’s Supper every Sunday (Acts 20:7; Matthew 26:26-30; 1 Corinthians 11:23-29).
      • Contributing regularly to the support of the church (1 Corinthians 16:1-2; 2 Corinthians 9:7).
      • Preaching from the Bible (2 Timothy 4:2; Romans 1:16; Mark 16:15-16; Matthew 28:19).
      • We pray (1 Thessalonians 5:17).
      • We sing without the accompaniment of a musical instrument realizing that only our heart can produce a melody acceptable to God (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16).
  1. The Bible teaches we must do the following to receive salvation:
    • One must hear God’s word (Romans 10:14-17; Matthew 13:19; Matthew 28:19).
    • One must believe that Word (Mark 16:15-16; Hebrews 11:6; John 3:16; 8:24).
    • One must repent of their sins (Luke 13:3-5; Acts 2:38; 17:30; 26:20).
    • One must confess that Christ is the Son of God (Acts 8:37; Romans 10:10; Matthew 10:32-33).
    • One must be immersed for the remission of sins into the body of Christ his church (Acts 2:38; 8:12; Acts 22:16; Romans 6:1-6; Galatians 3:27; 1 Corinthians 12:12-13; 1 Peter 3:20-21; 2 Corinthians 5:17; John 3:1-5).
    • Live faithfully for Jesus (Philippians 3:12-14; Hebrews 6:1-6)
